Africa in your pocket

BIC Introduces Africa-Inspired range of pocket lighters.

BIC has launched an exciting, all-new pocket lighter range inspired and designed by Africans, for Africans. The Afrilights range showcases the incredible beauty of South Africa and has been created with local relevance and creativity in mind.

BIC invited all South Africans to submit their inspiring images of the country to help create these one-of-a-kind lighters. BIC received over a thousand submissions from the public and has been excited to see these authentic African designs come to life.

The top 35 images made it into the 2020 Afrilights series based on the quality of entries. Putting quality first is something BIC strives to continue, with plans to launch a brand-new set of African-inspired pocket lighters every year - keeping it for the people, by the people.

Karen Moodley, BIC Brand Manager Lighters for South & Central Africa says, “We’re very excited to launch this creative and inspiring range of lighters that showcases not only the beauty of our country but the talented individuals who call South Africa home. We were overwhelmed by the amazing designs and images that were submitted and can’t but appreciate the talents of South Africa.

As a brand, BIC is always looking for opportunities to engage our consumers with campaigns and initiatives that are locally relevant and celebrate the diversity of the local culture. We are excited to see the Afrilight range come to life and to have this be a yearly initiative."
